Author Interview with Rima Jbara

Who are you?

I am a writer whose life brims with words to be read, felt and absorbed. This is where I am today, at life’s crossroads. I am living out unusual experiences. I want to be what I am, a dreamer, so take me as I am. There is more to what you read about me, and maybe, not just what you think of me.

Where do you live?

For the moment I live in Dubai, United Arabi Emirates. In my mind, I live in various places on the planet.

What’s your home life like?

My home is generally quiet. You will hear the sound of old music playing from my vinyls or my baby barking. If I am hyper, then Latin music occupies the background. My home interiors are spacious and adorned in pastel shades.

What genre(s) to you like to write? To read?

I like to write about human’s emotions with all its complexities. It’s worth the pause, the contemplation, and penning it on paper. I like to read biographical and autobiographical books.

Why did you start writing?

I have no idea why I started writing. When I was thirteen years old, I wrote my first series of short stories to move my dolls accordingly. By the time I was fourteen years old, I wrote my first book and it was published in 1992.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

Read, spend time with my four legged furry baby, model, watch old movies and documentaries.

Where do you like to go when looking for a new book to read?

I always head to bookstores even when I am on vacation and of course online.

At what point do you call it quits when reading a new book?

After I pass the first 50 pages of a book and I find it not intriguing enough for me.

Are you independently or traditionally published?

I am independently published since 1992.

How many books/stories have you published so far?

I have sixteen published books.

What book/story are you currently promoting or working on?

I am working on my 16th book ‘Let Me Have My Say’.

What’s the elevator pitch?

My USP is mixing prose and free verse poetry which is my original pattern in writing my novels since Hope in 2000.
I am not in competition with other authors as I always brake all the rules when it comes to writing a book on purpose. I don’t care if it sells or gets well reviewed, I just want to write and do something completely different.

How long have you been working on it?

I have been working on my 16th book ‘Let Me Have My Say’ for two years.

When will it be available to buy? Where?

‘Let Me Have My Say’ will be released in August 2019. Internationally, it will be available via Amazon, Barnes & Nobles and Apple among various online shopping sites. In the Middle East it will be available in Kinokuniya Book World.

How can readers find you?

What inspires you to keep writing?

“I want to puzzle the world. Never let them know which piece goes with which piece. Make all the pieces similar to one another. And laugh at their confusion.”
From my book Kahraman

“I gather my wisdom to see the optimism in each occurrence with the aptitude to lever the incident with self-respect. I don’t bid myself the alternative of declining. I am here to remain.”
From my book Muddy Minutes

Sadness, pain and depression inspires to keep me writing.
