Who are you?

Emma McAnirlin

Where do you live?

I currently live in Newport, ME but I’m going to college in Roanoke, VA.

What’s your home life like?

It can best be described as tame. I have an older sister who is going to school in Ohio, so it’s typically pretty quiet. We have immediate family that lives nearby so there’s always somewhere to hang out and someone to be with.

What genre(s) to you like to write? To read?

I am fairly open when it comes to reading -- I just read my first horror about a month ago! I typically stay in the realistic fiction/teeny-bop fiction realm. I’m not afraid to venture out, though. I tend to write the same things I read, so it was interesting writing for this anthology.

Why did you start writing?

I wrote super short (and ridiculous) stories growing up in school, but it wasn’t until the tail end of junior high that I gave semi-serious thoughts to my writing. Then in my senior year I actually wanted to write and have a reason to write other than for myself so I took a creative writing class that was offered at school. Essentially, I write because I have a lot of feelings and I don’t know how to speak them so I just shove them all into my writing.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I’m usually reading, hanging out with friends, listening to music, watching terrible reality television, or watching Netflix.

Where do you like to go when looking for a new book to read?

Bookstores. Chain bookstores are most accessible, but independent bookstores are where my heart is. My camera roll is approximately 40% books that looked interesting to me.

At what point do you call it quits when reading a new book?

If I don’t like the description, I’m out. A gal can only do so many cliches before she’s read what seems like the same book a million times. But if I start a book, I’m likely to try and push through. If I don’t finish a book, it’s most likely because I started another book and completely forgot about the first one.

Are you independently or traditionally published?

I’ve never self-published or anything, and this is my first experience working with a company (Fluky Fiction).

How many books/stories have you published so far?

The stories being published in the anthology are the first things I’ve ever published! I definitely want to publish more after this experience, however!

What book/story are you currently promoting or working on?

In When Glints Collide, I have two stories -- The Crack, and The Light.

Set to be released October 10th or 17th

What’s the elevator pitch?

The Crack is a story about well -- a crack that goes through a town -- and it’s ultimately going to consume the entire Earth someday. All that the citizens of this town know is what time the Crack will open further, ending their lives. It’s next to this girl’s house, so you get to see a day of her life.
The Light is based off my fear of being in my basement. There's a monster that lives in this girl's basement. Fundamentally, this story is about their relationship and how they endure life in semi-close quarters.

How long have you been working on it?

I personally wrote both of my stories a loooong time ago but pulled them out when I thought about them back in May. I updated, edited, and revised like crazy until I was satisfied and then sent them into the anthology.

When will it be available to buy? Where?

The publisher is planning on releasing it on October 10th (October 17th is plan B) and will be available thru Amazon.

How can readers follow you?

Thank you, Emma, for letting us get to know you. Good luck in school and keep those stories coming!
