How to successfully publicize yourself on social media?

Social media has become an integral part of our culture. Social media gives us the ability to remain in contact with loved ones and it helps forge new connections—and that’s just naming two of hundreds of ways to use social media.

I use social media to make friends and to stay active in the book and writing community on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. I’ve used social media to effectively find clients, sell books, and get followers. And if you want to do this same thing, it’s not as hard as it looks.
Well, sort of.

Social media is simple in the grand scheme of things. You go on, you create content, and you engage with people. Pretty easy, right? Right. The problem comes with time. You can’t just schedule posts and leave social media alone. You’ve got to log in and do what social media was designed for: be social.

So, to successfully publicize yourself it really centers around that engagement. But once you’ve got that, there are a few other tips you can use to get ahead of everyone else. Check them out below!

Be Confident

This should go without saying, but when you post content online, try not to self-deprecate. Because, think about it, if you don’t make your content enjoyable to see, why should anyone follow you? Your followers want to see you succeed. You’ll find more engagement if you stay confident.

Less is More

I enjoy posting a lot, and there’s nothing wrong with that—if that’s what your audience expects. If your target audience is younger, posting more may work for you. But if your target audience is older, flooding their timeline with content may actually be counterintuitive and cause you to lose followers.

Be Personal

You don’t need to tell your followers everything you did during the day, nor do you need to divulge your darkest secrets, but it’s nice to be genuine. Our world is constantly bombarded with marketing these days. I often tune out most marketing, but if it’s personal? If it’s something I resonate with? That could gain you a lot of traction. So start small. Post about something that made you happy or tell one of your successes. You may be surprised how much engagement you’ll actually get.

Get Creative!

It’s great to follow fads and do Instagram Remixes, but there’s something to be said with having a creative post. It shows off your talent and who knows, maybe you could be the next trendsetter.

Relax and Have Fun

Like I mentioned, social media is a place for friends. Don’t be afraid to have fun with the platform. Engage with other content, not just stuff on your own. This could boost your algorithm and get you more followers in the process!
Social media can feel overwhelming, but the most important thing is not to stress it. Just experiment, and most importantly, have fun!
