Author interview with Melissa Crismon

Who are you?

A sentient being named Melissa Crismon.

Where do you live?

I live in California, but sometimes I'm in the sea swimming with mermaids and a merman for research.

What’s your home life like?

It's scheduled, but chill. I'm always busy from seeing everyone off to work and school to taking care of all my rescued pets. We rescued a poodle from the pound because Renaissance Man knew I wanted a poodle again. My heart went out to her because she was old and I wanted to give her a home in her retirement years. Well it turned out she was a diabetic. Our lives revolved around her for a year. Then we got her stable with insulin and realized we didn't need to be home every minute. Six years later, the dog still lives. I didn't see that coming. So my life revolves around family, which includes the beasts, and then writing.

What genre(s) to you like to write? To read?

I write Urban Fantasy Romance. And of course there are animals in my books.
I love to read history, science fiction, paranormal, and really anything that isn't boring.

Why did you start writing?

Well in my circle of moms, they were all saying, "Oh Edward." And I was like eye roll. Then I found the series for cheap at the library bookstore and I couldn't stop turning the pages. Then there was the movie Avatar and then I was at the beach boogie boarding a lot. A fantasy world bubbled in my mind.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I play the harp and garden. There is a mermaid statue in my garden.

Where do you like to go when looking for a new book to read?

YouTube, Goodreads, or even the library with all the homeless men.

At what point do you call it quits when reading a new book?

I try to find books I won't put down.

Are you independently or traditionally published?

Indie! But I just heard two publishers at a writer's conference and they were inspiring.

How many books/stories have you published so far?

I have published Superfreak and Superflop of the MerSea series.

What book/story are you currently promoting or working on?

I'm close to publishing the third book in the MerSea series, Superfly.

What’s the elevator pitch?

Is Nora Roberts in the elevator? Eek. Uh it's about a marine biologist, anti-whaler, mermaid Sarah Sumner, who finds out her becoming a mermaid was no accident.

How long have you been working on it?

About nine months.

When will it be available to buy? Where?

Superfly will be available May 2019 at Nook, Amazon, Kobo, and I'm looking at alternatives like Radish. The links are on my website.

How can readers find you?

What inspires you to keep writing?

“I've had the joy of spending thousands of hours under the sea. I wish I could take people along to see what I see, and to know what I know.”
Sylvia Earle

Anything you’d like to add?

Thank you Nicholas and to my writing community. You are a generous bunch. We love to give of our words freely. I'm not sure if that makes us cheap, but the information always helps.

My thanks to Melissa for joining me on the Laughably Inane Blog. I wish her all the best with the MerSea Series and her future writing endeavors.

Nicholas P. Adams

Just a small-town boy with an overactive imagination.
