Who are you?

I am Lily B. Francis, an independant writer with a passion for reading, art and history. I have been writing for over 20 years. After working for 10 years in real estate, I took the risk of leaving everything to live my passion, writing.

Where do you live?

I live in the south of France. But my family lives is in Lebanon and Australia.

What’s your home life like?

My family life is quite noisy, with two boys, 5 and 7 years old full of life. I live in a beautiful area, near the Atlantic ocean. So it's perfect to recharge your batteries.

What genre(s) do you like to write? To read?

I write dramas and intense moments of life. My latest books deal with perinatal bereavement, depression, parenting...
I have written a series of 4 books that could be chicklit but which still has a very dark side since it is about unrequited love. But I am a very optimistic girl ;)!

I can read a lot of things, a lot of classic literature, poetry, but not thrillers or horror books. I'm too sensitive for that kind of reading :)

Why did you start writing?

At first I wrote because reading had become frustrating. So I started writing the stories I wanted to read. And then, writing became a necessity, like breathing.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I play with my children, promote my books, take pictures, cook, go to the movies and restaurants with friends. I enjoy the wonderful life I have.

Where do you like to go when looking for a new book to read?

Library, of course ;)

And I can spend hours wandering around the shelves... I love being surrounded by books, but it's also very frustrating because you can't buy everything...

At what point do you call it quits when reading a new book?

That's a very good question. This almost never happens to me. I'd say when I don't have enough curiosity to go on...

Are you independently or traditionally published?

I'm independently published but for my next novel, I want to be traditionally published...

How many books/stories have you published so far?

I've published my 4-book series, and three other novels, so I'm up to 7 so far.
I have also published a collection of poetry and the prequel of my series.
So it's actually a little bit more than that... I lost count!

What book/story are you currently promoting or working on?

I am currently working with my translator on the English translation of my novel on perinatal bereavement. It's a huge work...
And I'm also writing my next novel, which is about toxic relationships. I've written more than half of it. I think I'm going to finish writing in April.

What’s the elevator pitch?

I can give you the pitch of Dust of you, my novel about perinatal bereavement that is being translated.

We all know someone who has experienced the loss of a baby before the term of the pregnancy, but do we really know what they have been through? Dust of you offers a journey into the thoughts and emotions of a mother and a couple going through this mourning and puts into words the silence that surrounds these children who were born but did not exist.

Something like that…

How long have you been working on it?

I wrote it in 2017.

I have rewritten it at least 4 times, then published it in French, translated it into English, and rewritten it again because I added things and chapters in the English version.

So it's been three years.

When will it be available to buy? Where?

I have no idea. The translation will be finished in March. Right now, I'm looking for a literary agent ;)

How can readers find you?

My pen name is Lily B. Francis.

What inspires you to keep writing?

"Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work"
Stephen King.

I like that one very much. If you want your book to be written, you have to sit down and write. That's it.
We write to taste life twice. In the moment and in retrospection.
Anaïs Nin.
That quote is taped to my wall above my desk.

Anything you’d like to add?

Thank you so much for this opportunity. I am very grateful.

Many thanks to Lily B. Francis for participating from across the pond. I wish her all the best in her personal and writing endeavors.

Just a small-town boy with an overactive imagination.
