Author Interview with Guenevere Lee

Who are you?

Guenevere Lee, author of mostly historical fantasy, but I love writing in pretty much any genre.
Picture

Where do you live?

Ontario, though I've been migrating around the province quite a bit this summer, so I feel like I don't have a proper city to call home, lol.
Picture

What’s your home life like?

I live with my partner of two years and an energetic puppy, so life is pretty good - but hectic.

What genre(s) to you like to write? To read?

There's no genre I don't like to write or read, though I'd have to admit I'm not so big on straight romance or mystery (even though I like seeing those things in the books I read).

Why did you start writing?

I always wrote. I didn't always know I was going to be a writer, I just love story-telling and world-building. It wasn't until I was around 10 when I realized writing was a profession.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

Think about writing, hahaha. Honestly, these days I'm busy marketing my writing, so there's little else on my mind.

W here do you like to go when looking for a new book to read?

The library. I'm pretty old school, and I like browsing the shelves until I find something that catches my eye.
Picture

At what point do you call it quits when reading a new book?

It's super rare for me to not finish a book, but if it is so heinous that by the mid-way point I am dreading picking it up, I'll call it quits.

Are you independently or traditionally published?

I plan to publish independently.

How many books/stories have you published so far?

My publisher is very, very indie.

What book/story are you currently promoting or working on?

Right now I'm editing the sequel to Orope - The White Snake. I'm also working hard on my bi-weekly serial, Leda and the Samurai, but Orope and that series is definitely my main priority.

What’s the elevator pitch?

The Bronze Age saw the beginning of empires, as well as their mysterious and catastrophic end. In a world not unlike our own, the nomadic Whisperers of the Gods have been given a grave vision of the gods destroying the world in a great flood, and they send three messengers to the great empires in hopes of appeasing the gods. Finding themselves in strange new lands with even stranger customs, the Whisperers soon discover the hardest thing is not only convincing the kings and queens to listen, but also reaching their destinations without falling prey to the dangers and temptations of these new lands. In this first novel, readers experience a lost age where the gods live in the wind and waves, and beasts lurk in the dark.

How long have you been working on it?

Oh boy, I've been working on this series for at least six years now.

When will it be available to buy? Where?

Orope is currently out on paperback, digital, and audio. The sequel, Pekari, will be out autumn 2019.

How can readers find you?

What inspires you to keep writing?

"Most English-speaking people ... will admit that cellar door is 'beautiful', especially if dissociated from its sense (and from its spelling). More beautiful than, say, sky, and far more beautiful than beautiful. Well then, in Welsh for me cellar doors are extraordinarily frequent, and moving to the higher dimension, the words in which there is pleasure in the contemplation of the association of form and sense are abundant."
Tolkien

Anything you’d like to add?

Travel is part of who I am, and a big part of my writing. When someone reads one of my books I want them to feel like they are experiencing a real world, with fleshed out cultures, complete with maps, languages, and histories. I hope you enjoy my writing!

My thanks to Guenevere for participating in the Laughably Inane Blog. I wish her all the best with her online series and other writing endeavors.
