Who are you?

Hi I'm Christine Melville Kenworthy, writer, mother of two gorgeous girls and lover of books, animals, yoga and vegan food!
Picture

Where do you live?

I was born in Newcastle (a true Geordie!) and now live on the north east coast of England with my husband Peter and rescue animals Lola (cat) and Saoirse (Romanian dog).

What’s your home life like?

I live near about a mile from the sea and spend lots of time on the beach. I've recently retired from working in a primary school with children with special needs and still visit regularly to see them and help out.

What genre(s) to you like to write? To read?

I'm fascinated by the way different personalities react to each other, how they affect the dynamics in a group and how we all bounce off each other. My writing reflects this in that it is very much character based. I also to write humour. Making readers laugh is a great thing to do!
I read all sorts of genres and tend to mix it up a bit.

Why did you start writing?

As a child I loved books and wanted to be able to write the sort of stories I enjoyed reading. I spent my pocket money on note books to fill with my tales.

Later I began keeping journals and started a school newspaper. I wrote bits and pieces over the years but it wasn't until 2006 when I lost my lovely dad to Alzheimers that I decided to chase my dream and try to get published.

What do you do when you’re not writing?

I love creating recipes and cooking for friends and family and have a cookery blog.

The Nut Lady
We have two lovely grown up daughters and spend lots of family time together.
I hate the gym so keep fit by swimming, taking our dog for long walks and doing yoga.

Where do you like to go when looking for a new book to read?

My sister runs our town library so I spend a lot of time browsing the shelves there. I also like to to support independent book shops and buy books from local authors.

At what point do you call it quits when reading a new book?

I usually struggle through to the end! I think you learn something from every book you read, even if it's techniques to avoid!
I only review books I've enjoyed as I know how much of the writer's soul goes into a piece of work. I feel it would be unfair to criticise just because something doesn't suit my taste.

Are you independently or traditionally published?

I approached a few publishers initially but was persuaded to try self-publishing by good reports from other authors. That's not to say I wouldn't be interested if a deal came along!

How many books/stories have you published so far?

I've had lots of non-fiction articles published in magazines, subjects range from child education and vegan cookery to pieces about Emily Davison the suffragette, an ancestor of mine.
I've published a trilogy of books about my experiences of owning a health food shop which relate the funny, moving and sometimes bizarre happenings.
The books are The Nut Shop, Gathering Nuts and In A Nutshell and are available in ebook and paperback at Amazon.

What book/story are you currently promoting or working on?

I'm writing a novel about a group of people whose lives all impact on each other. Each chapter is written from the viewpoint of a different character and there are a couple of main stories running through too. That's the idea anyway!

What’s the elevator pitch?

I'm not sure yet as it's likely to change as I write!

How long have you been working on it?

I've not been working on it long as I've been promoting In A Nutshell which launched earlier this year. I've written the first six chapters and have a (vague) plan.

When will it be available to buy? Where?

Aiming for it to be available on Amazon by autumn 2019.

How can readers find you?

What inspires you to keep writing?

I had a lovely letter from a lady with cancer who said my books had made her laugh during her time in hospital and urged me to keep writing. I received it after she died and it meant the world to me. It encourages me to keep going when I lose confidence in my work.

Anything you’d like to add?

I love hearing from readers and am always happy to visit groups to talk about my work. (distance permitting!)

Thank you so much,
Christine
